A VIBRANT COMMUNITY

About

NIYA

Niya translates from Arabic as meaning “intention.” Setting an intention is an opportunity to direct your energy towards a particular quality which then begins to manifest around you. It connects what you do on the mat with how you live off the mat. Niya Yoga was founded in 2016 by Jawaher Al Fardan, with the intention of creating a warm, vibrant community here in Qatar where everyone is welcome to explore the power of yoga.

JAWAHER AL FARDAN

Founder

Joujou founded Niya Yoga as part of her calling to share holistic health and healing here in Qatar. An advanced yoga teacher and Lululemon ambassador, she has undertaken over 500 hours of training in lineages that include vinyasa, ashtanga, hatha, yin and meditation.

Joujou’s classes are deeply nourishing, with fluid movements that connect breath and body as one. Warm and engaging, she guides her students to present moment awareness with a lightness that will leave you peaceful and grounded. As Qatar’s most influential wellness entrepreneur, look out for more of Joujou’s projects under her holding company House of Jade, including Evergreen Organics, Qatar’s first vegan cafe.

ALISSIA CLIFTON

Studio Manager & Teacher

Alissia teaches dynamic vinyasa flow classes that take inspiration from different lineages such as the Ashtanga method of yoga, Jivamukti and Anusara. You can look forward to challenging and creative sequences, with fluid strong movements that connect mind, body and breath. She strongly believes in the transformative power of yoga, no matter what your level, and hopes to support her students in understanding that they are exactly where they need to be, on and off the mat. With a wicked sense of humour and supermum powers, she's a bright, beautiful force in the studio!

With over 7 years teaching experience, she is an advanced yoga teacher and Lululemon Ambassador. Alissia has taken trainings in Ashtanga Vinyasa, Anusara vinyasa, pre and postnatal yoga and Yin yoga.

TAPOVAN TAMAS

Teacher

Tapovan is an inspiring presence to learn from. With a love of physical activities since his teenage years, he discovered yoga in 2003. This set him on an unforgettable journey which has now become a lifestyle.

He earned his first hatha yoga instructor certificate in 2011, followed by vinyasa flow the next year. He spent 3 months studying Ashtanga from two of the most accomplished teachers in Mysore. This was followed by 5 months learning rigorous meditation techniques and teaching yoga and pranayama in a Buddhist monastery near Kathmandu.

In 2014 he undertook the Sivanada teacher training programme and subsequently joined the full-time teaching staff at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in Kerala, where he shared various yoga, pranayama and meditation classes. In 2015 Tapovan taught yoga and meditation at Phoenix Yoga Studio in Melbourne, followed by a 3 month conscious yoga living programme at Hariharalaya Retreat Center in Cambodia.

Tapovan is a fantastic teacher and intensive practitioner; his classes reflect the many years he has spent immersed in meditation, absorbing yogic texts and practising pranayama and kriya yoga techniques.

DAVIN JONES

Teacher

Davin is Niya Yoga's very own movement master. A 500 Hour E-RYT and Lululemon ambassador, his teachings are from the traditions of Hatha, Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga. Davin combines these styles to create classes which can be challenging on occasion, with the awareness to adapt the practice to different levels of practitioners. With a deep love of functional anatomy, Davin guides classes with clear instruction on posture alignment to allow the practitioner to create a fundamental understanding of the physical body. His classes are known to be vinyasa based with dynamic flows through the postures and longer holds to create depth and deeper understanding of the practice.

Davin has a liking to say the least for inversions and arm balancing. Having led workshops, retreats and teacher training courses worldwide, he's developed techniques to guide practitioners of all levels to safely bring these postures into their yoga practice.

CHRISTINE FUENTEBELLA

Front of House

Our wonderful receptionist Christine has joined us from Coron Palawan, the Philippines. Christine’s yoga journey began at home, watching YouTube videos online and feeling her way through the practice. She soon began to experience the physical and mental benefits: she felt stronger, more flexible, and better equipped to manage stress.

A number of fortunate synchronicities then led Christine to Niya Yoga, where she’s excited to continue exploring the mind body spirit connection. With a bright smile on her face, she’s your first point of contact at the studio and will guide you through the logistics of your visit.
